Malik Attila Cosby, affectionately known as “MooMoo” was born on May 25, 2000 and slipped peacefully into rest on July 27, 2011. He was the loving son of Lisa Couser and Attila Cosby.
On May 15, 2001, Malik was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). This disease was unfortunate and although it left Malik physically disabled, it never broke his spirit or his passion for life. Malik enjoyed his action hero figures, watching movies, surfing the internet on his IPad and Computer (even sites that he shouldn’t have been viewing), listening to his IPod, doing a lot of trash-talking and traveling to places such as Hawaii, North Carolina, Jamaica and Florida.
For much of Malik’s young life and due to his condition, Malik was mostly home schooled. He had numerous teachers that he loved Ms. Pat, Ms. Mary, Ms. Beard, Mr. Johnson, Ms. Allison and Ms. Howie. However, for kindergarten, he attended Catherine T. Reed Elementary School and he was preparing to attend middle school the sixth grade this upcoming school year. Malik’s mother was excited and nervous of what Malik might say in school.
Malik had a very special bond with his grandmother, Geneva, and he was known to have her wrapped around his little fingers and she always managed to give in to his many demands. At a very young age, Malik and his father shared a love for basketball. Malik was always making nicknames for his daddy, and due to his height, he once called his dad, “Clifford” the big red dog. Malik loved telling stories about his “Papa” or his “Pops” going to Atlantic City and beating up the kids at Largo High School, which he thought was hilarious. Malik found it hilarious that people would ask his mother Lisa, was she his sister, so he began to call her Lisa and tell people that she was his sister. Just recently, Malik started calling his parents “Mom” or “Ma” and “Dad” instead of “Mommy” and “Daddy” because as he so proudly put it, “I’m a teenager now.”
Malik adored all of his nurses beginning with his first nurse Ms. Juliana, Mr. Patrick, Ms. Flora, Ms. Musu, Ms. Rita, Ms. Eugenia, Ms. Frances, Ms. Eunice and Ms. Esther . They all took great care of Malik and became part of our family. He also had a deep affection for animals and he loved them all, starting with his very first pet piranhas, Nemo and Fat-head, as well as his many dogs, CoCo Chanel, Sugar and his newest puppy, Krypto (aka, the Demon). Malik had quite a fulfilled life and he touched the hearts of everyone that he ever met. Knowing Malik added laughter and joy to your life and one could never expect what would come out of his mouth next.
Malik’s memory will be cherished by his loving parents Lisa and Attila, his very devoted grandparents, Geneva & Eugene Couser, his Godparents, Chris Monroe, Dr. Robin Wellington and Heather Whittaker, his best-friend Jerika Bolen and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Malik often spoke about beating SMA, going to college, getting married and driving a car. Malik was fortunate enough to have experienced his wishes of meeting Shaquille O’Neal and going to Disney World, which he did in June 2011 with his mom, grandmother and Aunt ReRe (Theresa Dear). His last wish was to walk, which he is no doubt doing right now in Heaven
